Learn how to use a Scythe
10:00 – 16:00
Step aside Poldark….the Astons’ Scythers are about to shake things up! As part of our grant from the Trust of Oxfordshire’s Environment (TOE), we have been able to purchase some Austrian scythes and rakes. This is a free training course for up to six people who are prepared to commit to reguarly helping out maintain the field. "Regularly" isn't very well defined yet, maybe do 4 scything sessions a year of a few hours each. There's more info here: https://joyofscything.uk/courses2/ timings are approximate and may change by a few hours. I've allocated more than six spaces, so you can register even if you're just interested and we may schedule another course in future if there's plenty of demand.

join us for a stroll through the Field ending with a refreshing drink  -  share your own nature notes, or simply enjoy the Field in the height of its summer glory. For the Nature Walk, meet just inside the Field, at the Aston’s kissing gate entrance at 4pm. We will end the walk at the far end of the Field up on the chalkland bank for a glass of something celebratory. Feel free to bring a glass and a bottle of your favourite tipple. We will provide picnic blankets and nibbles.

Privet Bashing - part III
10:00 – 13:00
We have an unwelcome guest in the field - an invasive species of Privet that is outcompeting the wildflowers, orchids and ... brambles (they need dealing with too). We need to cut it right back to the ground and pull the roots out. This is strenuous work.  Please bring loppers, secateurs, gloves water, snacks and a sense of humour.  Wear hiking boots or similar with good ankle support, and maybe even a sun hat!

Privet bashing
10:00 – 13:00
We have an invasive species of Privet growing at the West end of the field which needs manual removal to keep it under control. This will be a physical work out, digging up bushes and their roots and clearing them.  We'll be up on the steep slope working on unevent ground. Bring sturdy footwear and hydration!!
